When to Perform Surgery in Radiculopathies Caused by Cervical Disc Hernia?

Cervical disc hernia is diagnosed more frequently with aging since it is a normal degenerative process during aging, and it has been
detected more commonly as a radiological diagnosis and become an important topic ever since MRI use has become more popular.
Although it may sometimes show no signs or symptoms, cervical disc hernia can also emerge with a severe clinical manifestation as
radiculopathy or myelopathy. In myelopathies, the decision in favor of operation is easier. On the other hand, there is no consensus
on whether to operate on the patient or follow them up in radiculopathies. Although it varies from one doctor to another, symptoms
like motor deficits, no response to conservative treatment, or motor weakness impairing function can guide the surgeon about the
timing of the surgery. In this article, a review of the literature about the timing of surgery for cervical radiculopathies is discussed and
a summary of current practices is presented.
