¹Ege Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, Beyin ve Sinir Cerrahisi Anabilim Dalı, İzmir, Türkiye Cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM) is the most common cause of spinal cord dysfunction. It is the result of static or dynamic repeated compression of the spinal cord. The main component of the CSM is the narrowing of the spinal canal. It results from a combination of intervertebral disc herniation, osteophytes and ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament. The clinical diagnosis of CSM relies heavily on the characteristic symptoms and signs elicited during the history and physical exam that prompt further investigation with cervical spine imaging, and various treatment options exist. In the last 10 years, some studies with high evidence value in SSM and OPLL have brought some clarity to our approach to these patients and to patient selection.
