Use of Anticonvulsants in Neurosurgery

It affects patient recovery in the near term and quality of life in the long term. For these reasons, the use of anticonvulsants in neurosurgery is one of the most common treatment methods. Currently, there are around 25 anticonvulsants in use. Historically, the use of phenytoin was intense in the previous period while the frequency of levetiracetam has increased in the recent period. Issues such as the half-life, potency, and side-effect levels of the drug used are important in these preferences. In addition, it has been observed that certain anticonvulsants are more beneficial in some pathologies. Evidence-based medical studies have been conducted for a more objective evaluation.
