²Uludağ Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Nöroloji Anabilim Dalı, Bursa Increasing knowledge of the neuropathological aspect of the central nervous system function raises the possibility of treating neurodegenerative disease such as Parkinson's, Alzheimer Disease by neural graft implantation. The successful utilization of fetal nerve cells grafts as therapeutic tools has prompted us the first clinical trial in Alzheimer disease. A 3x3mm diameter neural graft obtioned from ventrobasal fore brain of 3 months old fetus was implanted through right parietal craniotomy via interhemispheric approach into the fimbria of a 61 years old Alzheimer patient whom was unresponsive to any medical treatment and her symptoms worsening rapidly. Post-operative first week her visual hallucinations and screamings stopped. In the second week her gatizm were improved. She was able to answer simple questions and name objects. Though there was no significant difference pre-or post operatively found in Wechesler Memory Scale, she showed clinically significant memorial and behavioral improvement after grafting. This recovery lasted 7-8 months and gradually ceased probably due to graft rejection.
