Nonaneurysmal SAH differs from aneurysmal SAH regarding clinical characteristics. In this study we aimed to investigate mortality related factors in nonaneurysmal nonperimesencephalic spontaneous SAH (NA-NPM-SAH)patients.
MATERIAL and METHODS: Patients with NA-NPM-SAH that admitted to our institution between 2015 and 2021 were included in the study. Demographic data, comorbidities, SAH related factors (symptoms, neurological and radiological scores, and complications) as well as mortality status were retrieved from the hospital database. Parameters were compared between those deceased and those alive following SAH. To reveal any independent risk factors, a regression analysis was performed.
RESULTS: A total of 60 patients with NA-NPM-SAH were included in the study. Loss of consciousness and as well as worse GCS, WFNS, and Fisher scores were associated with mortality. Delayed cerebral ischemia was also significantly higher in deceased patients. Regression analysis revealed WFNS score at admission as an independent risk factor for mortality.
CONCLUSION: Mortality in NA-NPM-SAH cases is lower than aneurysmal SAH, but it"s not rare. Identifying risk factors related to mortality in this subgroup of SAH patients can help understand and decrease the mortality in the future.
