LONG-TERM SURVIVAL WITH GLIOBLASTOMA MULTIFORME
Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, Nöroşirürji Anabilim Dalı, İzmir
Ten patients with glioblastoma multiforme, exduding those seen in multifocal glioma cases were operated on during the year 1986 to 1990. Patients surviving at least one year after the operation were identified, and their original pathological spedemens were reexamined. Five patients were shown to have survived longer then one year. Preoperative Karnofsky performance scores were at least 70 in those five patients. Younger age end extensive tumor resection were found to be associated with length of survival. Factors affecting survival are discussed in the light of pertinent literature.
