Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) has a significant impact on patients' quality of life in the treatment of Parkinson's disease (PD), the
second most common neurodegenerative disease in the world after Alzheimer's. However, increasing budget constraints make it
necessary to consider not only clinical effectiveness but also cost effectiveness in medical decision-making. The aim of this study is
to conduct a systematic review on the cost-effectiveness of the DBS method in the treatment of PH. 12 articles selected according
to PICOS criteria compare the DBS method with medication and medical device-assisted therapies (CDT). The majority of studies
show that the additional cost-effectiveness ratio of DBS per QALY (Quality Adjusted Life Years) is below the threshold value. DBS
treatment has a higher quality of life value compared to Medical Treatment (TT), but a lower quality of life value compared to other
CDT. DBS is more costly than TT and more convenient than CDT. Additionally, sensitivity analyzes determined that battery life
has a significant impact on maintaining the cost-effectiveness of DBS. In conclusion; DBS is more cost effective compared to
TT. However, the scarcity of CDT studies makes it difficult to compare the three methods. Therefore, further research by impartial
institutions is recommended.
