2Başkent Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, Nöroşirürji Anabilim Dalı, Ankara, Türkiye DOI : 10.5137/1019-5157.TND.3324 AIM: The Internet allows patients to access a wealth of health information. We aimed to assess the reliability of Turkish YouTube videos about brain aneurysms accessed by Internet users and which features increase viewer engagement.
MATERIAL and METHODS: This study was conducted on January 22, 2024 at https://www.youtube.com/ using the keyword "brain aneurysm". The quality of each video was independently assessed by two neurosurgeons using the Global Quality Scale (GQS) and modified DISCERN tools. Qualitative and quantitative video data were analyzed for quality and audience engagement.
RESULTS: The first 50 videos on YouTube were evaluated by searching the keyword "brain aneurysm". A total of 43 videos that met the specified criteria were included in the study. The mean number of views of the videos was 16059±24466.30, the mean number of days on air was 1939.39±879.70, and the mean number of months on air was 161.61±73.30. The mean number of likes for the videos was 240.81±344.94, while the mean number of dislikes was 7.60±10.86. The average number of comments on the videos was 70.34±115.35. The average duration of the videos was 793.16±1010.55 seconds. The average number of members of the relevant channels was 33854.46±77078.30. The average Discern was 1.90±2.06 and the average GQS was 2.74±1.39.
CONCLUSION: For patients seeking information on brain aneurysms, YouTube is not a very reliable resource. Our analysis of audience involvement and quality may be useful to content providers (doctor offices and hospital personnel) in producing more comprehensive, instructive, and interesting medical movies about brain aneurysms.
