Ankara Numune Hastanesi Nöroşirürji Kliniği, Ankara Prognosis and mortality after head injury is assessed with respect to clinical factors and radiological findings. These factors are age, trauma etiology, Glasgow coma scale, multi-system trauma, nature of intracranial lesion, elevated intracranial pressure, status of brainstem evoked potentials, midline shift and obliteration of basal cisterns. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the clinical and radiological factors affecting prognosis and mortality in 1450 head injury patients. Mortality rate was 15.7 % (228 cases), and was high in adults, after head injury caused by traffic accidents, associated with thoracal or abdominal trauma, and in patients with severe head injury, acute subdural hematoma, airway obstruction, and bilateral pupil dilatation.
