There is increasing tendency in utilizing Gamma Knife Radiosurgery as an alternative to microsurgical resection for the treatment of small to medium sized vestibular schwannomas. In this study preliminary radiological and odiological results of 20 vestibular schwannomas with more than one year followup, treated in Marmara University Gamma Knife Radiosurgery Unit and the current status of the Gamma Knife Radiosurgery are discussed. Preliminary results revealed that among 15 patients with useful hearing, two 03%) had decreased hearing function, whereas in 13 patients (87%) initial useful hearing was maintained. Tümör growth control was achieved in all 000%) cases. Gamma Knife Radiosurgery is an effective treatment option in tümörs lesser than 2.5 cm of diameter and without signs of compression of vital structures, while preserving hearing and facial nerve functions.
