4Marmara Üniversitesi Nörolojik Bilimler Enstitüsü, İstanbul Objective: In the current neurosurgical practice, Gamma-Knife radiosurgery can be used an alternative treatment of residual or recurrent pituitary adenomas. In this study we present first year results of gamma-knife treated pituitary adenomas.
Methods: Thirty-nine pituitary adenoma patients with follow-ups of at least one year, among a total number of 82 cases treated between January 1997 - January 2000 in Gamma-Knife Unit in Marmara University are analysed in this study. All cases were followed up by MRI, visual field, and blood hormon levels at every 3 months. This report presents results of analysis of ongoing prospective clinical study.
Result: Except one case, tumor growth control achieved in all cases. At first year, endocrinologic control 66% in prolactinoma cases, 87% in GH adenomas and 50% in ACTH adenomas. Irreversible radiological changes or clinical neurological are not observed.
Conclusion: This initial assesment emphasizes that gamma-knife treatment can be an effective treatment modality for the control of anatomical growth and biochemical response in recurrent and residual pituitary adenomas, even in the short term period.
