SINUS OCCLUSION SECONDARY TO TRAUMATIC EXTRAAXIAL HAEMORRHAGE
1İstanbul Tıp Fakültesi, Beyin ve Sinir Cerrahisi A.D, İstanbul2İstanbul Tıp Fakültesi, Radiodiagnostik A.D, İstanbul Purpose: Dural sinus occlusion may occur due to infection, surgery, hypercoagulability or compression of the sinuses by tumors. Although sinus thrombosis in closed head trauma has been reported in children previously, sinus occlusion due to compression by an extra-axial hematoma is very rare.
Case Report: This report describes a 22-year-old male who was found unconscious and in whom a small temporo-occipital epidural hematoma and occlusion of the ipsilateral distal transverse and sigmoid sinuses were detected in imaging studies. The patient was managed conservatively and the occluded sinuses were recanalized following resolution of the epidural hematoma.
Conclusion: This report highlights a rare etiological factor in dural sinus occlusion.
Anahtar Kelimeler : Dural sinus thrombosis, epidural hematoma
