Yeditepe Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Nöroşirürji Anabilim Dalı, Kozyatağı/İstanbul In different periods of last century many neurosurgical applications were performed by a variety of surgeons, including neurosurgeons, ENT surgeons, and general surgeons in Turkey. The most important part of these applications were neurotraumatological procedures. Dr. Nicolas Taptas, an ENT surgeon, and Dr. Jean Taptas, a neurosurgeon and son of Dr. Nicolas Taptas, were among the surgeons working in that period. Whereas Dr. Nicolas Taptas was one of the Pioneer surgeons performing injection to the Gasser gangion, Dr. Jean Taptas was one of the pioneers of neurosurgery, and particularly lumbar disc surgery, in Turkey.
