Marmara Üniversitesi, Tıp Fakültesi, Radyoloji Anabilim Dalı, İstanbul For the radiological diagnosis of acoustic schwannomas, unenhanced highresolution T2-weighted fast spin-echo MR imaging as a scanning protocol, its advantages and limitations are discussed. To guide the radiologist, a new acoustic schwannoma classification is suggested: First, schwannoma typicaly located in the internal auditory canal and cerebello-pontine angle cistern, second, primarily arising in the internal ear, third, extending from the internal auditory canal to the internal ear. Differential diagnosis for acoustic schwannoma and radiological findings supporting preoperative planing are presented.
