Thrombosed Giant PICA Aneurysm: Case Report
SSK Okmeydanı Eğitim Hastanesi, Nöroşirürji Kliniği, İstanbul
We present a case of partially thrombosed giant aneursym of the posterior
inferior cerebellar artery (PICA). Giant aneursyms of the PICA are quite rare. 50-
60 percent of giant aneursyms are thrombosed, but complete obliteration of the
aneurysmal sac is uncommon. Bleeding tendency of the giant aneurysms are
similar with other aneurysms. Thrombosis of an aneurysm does not decrease
the risk of bleeding. Progressive neurological symptoms can be seen in time due
to mass effect. In these report, we did not visualized the vertebral artery which
extends after the aneurysm. The patient did not accept operation. He has been
followed for three years, in the follow up angiographies we detected no
decrease in size and an increase in the thrombosed part of aneurysm. No
deferioration in the neurological status of the patient was observed.
