Remote Cerebellar Hemorrhage after Supratentorial Surgery
Ondokuzmayıs Üniversitesi, Tıp Fakültesi, Nöroşirürji Anabilim Dalı, Samsun, Türkiye
Remote parenchymal hemorrhage (RPH) is a rare complication seen especially
following elderly patients' supratentorial neurosurgical procedures. A71-year-old
female patient presented with a suddenly occurring aphasia and a right-sided
hemiparesia. Left fronto-temporal intracerebral hemorrhage was seen in the
cranial tomography and the hemorrhage was drained with a left fronto-temporal
craniotomy. At the postoperative twelfth hour, a 3x2x2 cm left cerebellar
intraparenchymal hemorrhage was seen at the follow-up cranial tomography. The
patient was discharged with recovered aphasia and could walk with minor help
after conservative medical treatment. For this reason we discussed infratentorial
hemorrhage and its etiopathogenesis when it follows supratentorial hematoma
drainage or mass evacuation.
