1, 3, 4 GATA, Beyin ve Sinir Cerrahisi Kliniği, Ankara, Türkiye2 Fırat Üniversitesi, Beyin ve Sinir Cerrahisi, Anabilim Dalı Elazığ, Türkiye Pituitary adenomas are benign epithelial tumors that arise from adenohypophysial cells and constitute the most common lesions in the hypothalamic/pituitary region, representing ~ 10-20% of all intracranial tumors. New researches related to the treatment of pituitary adenomas are focused on molecular pathogenesis of the development of the pituitary adenomas, and development of new treatment modalities for different subgroups of pituitary adenomas. The studies are especially focused on new medical treatment strategies for Growth hormone and ACTH secreting tumors. Progress in radiosurgery has had an impact on the neurosurgical treatment strategies. Surgery is still the first step of treatment for most pituitary adenomas. Recently developed expanded endonasal skull base surgery is rapidly progressing and the unpublished but presented clinical results are remarkable.
