OBJECTIVE: Vertebroplasty is a polymethylmetacrilate injection to a lesioned
vertebral body via percutaneously under fluroscopy. Primary objectives of the
procedure are to strengthen the vertebral body and to provide pain control. It can be
performed for cervical vertebrae in some pathologies as osteoporotic vertebral
fractures, Multiple Myelomas, hemangiomas or osteolytic metastases, it can be
performed for thoracal or lumbar area as well.METHOD: The procedure is performed via anterolaterally in lower cervical area. In upper cervical area, transoral or oblique anterolateral routes are more suitable. Cement leakage and spinal cord lesions due to this, pulmoner embolia and infections are the complications of the procedure and are seen infrequently.
CONCLUSION: It can be one of the most appropriate method for cervical region as the procedure can be performed percutaneously, leads obtaining samples for biopsy during the application of the technique and provides pain control.
