Pathological Classification of Meningiomas

Hacettepe Üniversitesi, Tıp Fakültesi, Patoloji Anabilim Dalı, Ankara Meningiomas are common adult brain tumors originating from meningeal coverings of the brain and spinal cord. Though most examples are slowly growing World Health organization (WHO) grade I tumors, rare variants such as, clear cell, chordoid, papillary, and rhabdoid, as well as brain invasive (WHO grade II), atypical (WHO grade II), and anaplastic (WHO grade III) meningiomas are considered more aggressive. This review summarizes the histopathological features and grading schemes of meningiomas, including differential diagnosis and immunohistochemical features.
