2S.B Ümraniye Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi, Nöroşirürji Kliniği, İstanbul, Türkiye AIM: There are more than 90 training clinics for neurosurgery in Turkey. The aim of this study was to exhibit the number and variety of neurosurgical operations performed in these clinics.
MATERIAL and METHODS: Details of neurosurgical operations performed in 2008 were requested from 73 training neurosurgery clinics. Data was analyzed under 22 subgroups.
RESULTS: Data was received from 27 university and 11 state hospital clinics and was included in the study. A total of 35107 neurosurgical operations were performed in these 38 clinics in 2008. 51.8% of these operations were spine-related procedures, 39.5% were cranial, and 8.5% were pediatric neurosurgery procedures.
CONCLUSION: This study reflects the practice of more than 50% of neurosurgery training centers. Spine surgery is the most important part of neurosurgical procedures, with respect to the number of procedures. A new study covering all the departments should be performed routinely.
