3Kırıkkale Üniversitesi,Tıp Fakültesi, Radyoloji Anabilim Dalı, Kırıkkale, Türkiye An 8 day-old male with a cephalocele located at the occipitocervical region was examined. There was no neurological deficit. The brain CT and MR scans disclosed a midline closure defect of the occipital bone 4.2 mm in diameter, and a giant meningocele which originated from this defect without neural tissue. During surgery, the meningocele wall had developed from the arachnoidal membrane but did not contain a dura mater component. The neck of the meningocele was truncated near the occipital defect and the pouch was totally removed. The healthy skin was then primarily closed with prolene suture. Two months later, there was no neurological deficit on his examination and there was no recurrence of the hydrocephalus or meningocele on brain BT images. Cephaloceles larger than the head are rare. Although our case's pouch was larger than his head, it did not contain any neural tissue. The bone defect and dura mater was not repaired during surgery but no cerebrospinal fluid leak was observed postoperatively. All these factors mentioned above may have been advantageous for our patient in the postoperative recovery period. Anahtar Kelimeler : Meningocele, Occipital Bone, Prognosis
