Peroneal nerve palsy is a common form of lower extremity peripheral nerve damage and is usually caused by trauma, surgery or postural compression of the nerve. Separated from the sciatic nerve in the popliteal fossa, the peroneal nerve crosses the gastrocnemius muscle lateral head in the outer part of the popliteal fossa. Below the knee, it has a very superficial course at the level of the fibular head and neck for an area of 3-4 cm2. This region is protected only by skin and fascia. It passes through a fibrous arc created by the peroneus longus muscle and intermuscular septum in this area. The peroneal nerve is usually compressed in this area. Non-traumatic causes are rare. Five patients (3 females, 2 males) were diagnosed with nerve palsy following clinical examination, MRI and EMG. We present five cases of peroneal nerve damage due to various causes in this article.
