3Kayseri Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi, Radyoloji Kliniği, Kayseri, Türkiye Misdiagnosed clivus fractures due to early deaths led by severe head trauma and lack of radiological diagnostic techniques which were mostly diagnosed in autopsy series in past are increasingly being reported associated with the routine use of computed tomography in recent years. Overall incidence in head trauma patients has been reported 0.33-0.56%. Fractures of clivus mostly present with multiple cranial nerve deficits, brainstem trauma and vascular complications of vertebro-basillary and carotid arterial systems due to its anatomical location. Hence, the mortality increases. However the majority of previously reported cases were with neurological deficits or post-mortem diagnosed; only few cases were reported without any neurological deficits. Several reports have noticed an inferior clivus fracture accompanied by occipital fracture. In this paper, we report a case fallen form height with fracture of occipital condyl extending from hypoglossal canal to basio-occipital part of the clivus without any neurological deficits.
