MATERIAL and METHODS: A total of 93 patients operated with the methods of In-situ Decompression (ISD) and Anterior Subcutaneous Transposition (AST) due to the diagnosis of ulnar nerve entrapment (UNE) in Neurosurgery Clinic of GATA Haydarpaşa Training Hospital between the years of 2005 and 2010 were retrospectively reviewed.
RESULTS: When we reviewed the files and operation notes of 93 patients operated between 2005 and 2010, the files of 6 patients were unable to be reached. The files of 87 patients (93.5%) were reached and they were included into the study. We detected that in-situ decompression (ISD) was performed on 59 patients and anterior subcutaneous transposition (AST) was on 28 patients. The patients were evaluated at the mean postoperative 3rd month.
CONCLUSION: We observed that in-situ decompression is an effective and adequate surgical treatment method in the treatment of entrapment neuropathy of the ulnar nerve and the method of AST does not make a significant contribution to the surgical outcome.
