Extraordinary Hydrocephalus With Radiological Findings: Case Report
Süleyman Demirel Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Nöroşirürji Anabilim Dalı, Isparta
PURPOSE: We present a case with clinical findings of shunt dysfunction despite
normal ventricular size on CT.CASE REPORT: An 18-year-old male suffering from headache, ataxia, diplopia and ptosis had been admitted to the local hospital where he had undergone ventriculo-peritoneal shunting three months ago. He was referred to our hospital with a CT scan showing normal ventricular size. The CT scan repeated on the same day following the onset of unconsciousness and revealed ventricular dilatation. The consciousness and other neurological findings of the patient improved following distal catheter replacement of the ventriculoperitoneal shunt.
CONCLUSION: Neurological examination is superior to radiological imaging to detect shunt dysfunction.
