Chiary Malformation and Syringomyelia

The chiari malformation is a congenital anomaly of the craniovertebral junction and hindbrain. It is characterised by the herniation of posterior
fossa structures through the foramen magnum into the cervical spinal canal. Syringomyelia is also alone, is not a disease, a chronic neurological
disorder in which a longitudinal cystic cavities forms within the spinal cord. Therefore, neurological findings emerged from the compression of
the spinal cord. Syringomyelia and Chiari malformations closely associated conditions and There are a lot of theories about the development
syringomyelia associated with Chiari malformation. Current treatment options based on these theories. Therefore two pathology often is
described together. In this review, approaches of these two pathology will be discussed in the practice of pediatric neurosurgery
