Usage of Bipedicled Fasciocutaneous Flaps in Soft Tissue Reconstruction of Congenital Scoliosis
Şişli Hamidiye Etfal Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi, Plastik, Rekonstrüktif ve Estetik Cerrahi Kliniği, İstanbul, Türkiye
INTRODUCTION: Nonsyndromic congenital vertebral malformations may be a serious health issue for adjunctive congenital spinal
deformities such as scoliosis or kyphosis. Syndromic vertebral malformations are found mostly in the following syndromes: Klippel-Feil,
Alagille, Spondylothoracic dystrophia and Goldenhaar. We would like to share our 6-year-old congenital scoliosis case operated on by the
orthopedics department with simultaneous soft tissue reconstruction by our department.CASE REPORT: A 6-year-old patient suffering from paraplegia due to meningomyelocele sequelae presented at our clinic for 45˚angulating scoliosis and a 7 cm meningomyelocele scar. Posterior segmental instrumentation and L3 vertebral total corpectomy were performed by the orthopedics department and we performed soft tissue reconstruction as a 2-stage delayed procedure with vertically oriented bipedicled fasciocutaneous flaps.
CONCLUSION: We believe that the use of bipedicled lumbosacral flaps with a delayed procedure is reliable, especially for complicating and wide defects.
