Hacettepe Üniversitesi, Tıp Fakültesi, Beyin ve Sinir Cerrahisi Anabilim Dalı, Ankara, Türkiye In 10% of children who admitted for a complaint of seizure and who had the diagnosis of epilepsy, the frequency of seizure is transforming in a form requiring long-term antiepileptic drug treatment. Approximately one quarter of these cases continues to have seizures aff ecting their quality of life despite multiple antiepileptic drug treatment. Diff erent from the drug-resistant epilepsy in adults, repetitive seizures hinder cognitive and psychosocial development and to reach the normal development capacity in children who do not complete neuronal diff erentiation yet. Electrophysiological and radiological improvements, associated with the technological advancements provide successful outcomes with increasing frequency in the detection of electrical, morphological or neoplastic foci and in the methods of epilepsy surgery to stop seizures firstly in adults then the children. The definition of epilepsy surgery comprises 2 diff erent surgical techniques. Resective surgery based on the resection of epileptic foci and disconnection procedures based on the blockage of dissemination of abnormal electrical activity are the main methods of epilepsy surgery.

In this review, the concept of drug-resistance in childhood epilepsy, as well as the methods for the possibility of surgical treatment in drugresistant epilepsy and diff erent surgical techniques will be discussed. Anahtar Kelimeler : Epilepsy surgery, Pediatry
