Intraventricular Meningiomas

Uludağ Üniversitesi, Tıp Fakültesi, Nöroşirürji Anabilim Dalı, Bursa, Türkiye Meningiomas in the ventricles are very rare distinct pathologies that originate from arachnoidal cells within the choroid plexus. They generally occur in middle age adults and in the trigone of the lateral ventricle. Intraventricular meningiomas have a tendency to reach a large size before presentation. They generally present with symptoms of increased intracranial pressure, gait disturbance, cognitive dysfunction and visual deficits. Radiologically, they are solid, round and homogenously enhanced lesions in the ventricular system. They biologically behave similarly to meningiomas elsewhere in the cranial cavity. The management of intraventricular meningiomas creates many diagnostic and surgical challenges for the neurosurgeon. Complete surgical resection without recurrence is frequently possible. The surgeon approaches the ventricle using several surgical techniques. It is very important to identify and devascularize the feeding vessels during the resection. Blind traction of the tumor should be avoided because there is a major draining vein at the unseen side of the meningioma. Stereotactic radiosurgery is not necessary, but it can be used in progressive unresectable and/or residual meningiomas. Anahtar Kelimeler : İntraventricular meningiomas, Surgical approaches
