Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Acoustic Neuromas
1Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Nöroşirürji Anabilim Dalı2Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Radyoloji Anabilim Dalı In the examination of posterior fossa and skull base, the computerized tomography (CT) can not give optimum information due to bone artefacts. Especially in pontocerebellar pathologies, diagnostic difficulties arise depending on the localization and size of the lesion. Becuse of its high resolution and the fact that it doesn't cause bone artefacts MRI has an important role in the evaluation of this site. When Gadolinium (a paramagnetic agent) is used, the contrast enhanced MR images give special diagnostic information independent of the size and localization of the lesion. In this study, CT and MR findings of the acoustic neurinomas which are the most common mass lesions of the pontocerebellar angle are compared and the diagnostic value of MRI ise discussed.
