For the last several decades the treatment of high grade gliomas has been a field of unknowns and treatment failures, which has created pessimism. The sole reason for this failure was our lack of understanding on tumor biology. Molecular biological studies in the last decade have significantly improved our understanding of glioma biology. Resulting biomarkers have enabled quick and effective classification of the disease. This review will summarize advances on high grade glioma. The World Health Organization (WHO) 2016 classification of gliomas as well as current biomarkers will be summarized. This will be followed by a summary of their place in glioma biology. Molecular markers define different molecular subsets within high grade gliomas and these subsets have unique tumor biologies. Our understanding of high grade glioma biology has increased with the help of molecular technologies. Anahtar Kelimeler : Glioblastoma, Anaplastic astrocytoma
