1Acıbadem Üniversitesi, Tıp Fakültesi, Nöroşirürji Anabilim Dalı, İstanbul, Türkiye Meningiomas are the most common type of brain tumor. Although the current treatment of meningiomas is effective in most of the patients, several clinidal problems persist. To solve these problems a more thorough understanding of the meningioma biology is required. This review summarizes the current advances in meningioma biology. Molecular biological findings of classical and modern molecular techniques will be mentioned. Currently known molecular subsets will be correlated with clinical behavior. Findins on malignant degeneration and epigenetic findings will also be summarized. Meningiomas are genetically heterogenous tumors. Several molecular subsets exist, which differ in anatomical location, pathological subtype, clinical behavior, recurrence and malignant degeneration risk. Molecular biological findings provide important clues on clinical behaviour of meningiomas. Anahtar Kelimeler : Meningioma, Molecular biology, Genetic
