1Ege Üniversitesi, Beyin ve Sinir Cerrahisi Anabilim Dalı, İzmir, Türkiye Frontal plagiocephaly can be synostotic or deformational. The deformational type is more common than the synostotic type and may be associated with oligohydramnios, uterine pathology, being twins, cephalopelvic disproportion, birth trauma and postnatal bedding position. Anterior synostotic plagiocephaly is the third most common type of simple craniosynostosis after scaphocephaly and trigonocephaly. Suturectomy used to be the treatment modality of choice but currently different correction methods are used. The most frequent surgical modality nowadays is bilateral frontoorbital advancement. The aim of bilateral frontoorbital advancement is achieving long-term frontal and orbital symmetry bilaterally. The ideal operation timing is between 6 and 12 months. Surgical complications are hypovolemia because of blood loss peroperatively, pulmonary embolism, cerebrospinal fluid fistula, neural injury, orbital injury, central nervous system infection and inadequate correction.
