Non-Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage
1Başkent Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, Beyin ve Sinir Cerrahisi Anabilim Dalı, Ankara, Türkiye Subarachnoid hemorrhage develops between the arachnoid and the pia mater by the passage of blood into the space where cerebrospinal fluid is located under normal conditions. Rupture and bleeding of intracranial aneurysm is the second most common cause of subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) after trauma. In patients with negative four-vessel angiography for aneurysm or arteriovenous malformation, a repeat angiography is required to completely rule out such pathologies. Perimesencephalic subarachnoid hemorrhage is diagnosed in a subset of patients. No definite etiologic factor is found to explain the SAH in spite of thorough screening for a variety of rare causes in about 15% of the patients. This cohort of patients poses a challenge in the diagnosis and further management.
