1Fırat Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, Beyin ve Sinir Cerrahisi Anabilim Dalı, Elazığ, Türkiye The most common causes of pain due to peripheral nerves are nerve compression, traumatic nerve injury, peripheral nerve lesions, and metabolic or toxic causes. Surgical treatment is inevitable if there is no effective response after medical treatment and physical therapy exercises or in the case of neurological deficits secondary to the related pathology. In the surgical treatment of pain due to peripheral nerve pathologies, various surgical methods such as nerve decompression, spinal cord stimulation (SCS), high frequency stimulation of deep brain structures (DBS) such as the thalamus and cingulum, and stimulation of the peripheral nerves are performed. In this review, classical and modern surgical methods used in the surgical treatment of pain due to peripheral nerves are discussed with the current literature.
