Technological and surgical developments play an important role in the historical development of ETV, the main principle of which is the connecting of interpedincular and prepontine cistern with the third ventricle. In addition to the correct surgical technique, appropriate patient selection is also important for the success of ETV. The fact that ETV, which has some serious complications like all surgical procedures, is more physiological than shunt surgery increases its preferability. Today, ETV is accepted as the first-line treatment method in many centers in appropriate cases in the treatment of obstructive hydrocephalus. In this review, ETV indications, case selection criteria, radiological evaluation criteria, surgical techniques, results and complications are examined.
