The most common movement disorder is Parkinson"s disease. Surgical treatment can be performed in cases where medical treatment is insufficient as in epilepsy, pain and some other conditions. Today, at a time when neuromodulation is gradually developing, deep brain stimulation is the leading surgical procedure for Parkinson"s disease. Many studies are being conducted to understand the mechanism of action of deep brain stimulation, and the effectiveness has been proven by various studies. The excitation and suppressive effects provided by the electrodes are processed by a complex neuronal network, and clinical results are obtained. In this review, the mechanisms of action of deep brain stimulation will be summarized. Anahtar Kelimeler : DBS, Mechanisms of action, Parkinson Disease
