Revealing the connection pathways that cannot be distinguished during surgery through white matter dissection and seeing their neighborhoods are of great importance in determining safe approaches to intracerebral lesions. While learning the deep 3-dimensional anatomy of the brain through white matter dissection, it also allows classical approaches to be updated. It also helps improve surgical skills.

In the first stage of the specimen to be dissected, vascular washing is performed without removing it from the cranium. In this way, blood and clots in the entire vascular bed are removed. Afterwards, it is placed in 10% formaldehyde solution and waited for it to be fixed for at least 2 weeks. Then, in order to dissect the white matter more easily and to see the pathways more clearly, it is frozen in a deep freezer in a container filled with water at -10oC to -15oC for at least a week. At the end of this process, the brain is ready for white matter dissection.

Our aim is to discuss step by step how to prepare specimens and how to perform white matter dissection, in order to better understand the complex internal structure of the brain and its deep connection pathways. Anahtar Kelimeler : White matter, Neuroanatomy, Dissection
