Incidence of coagulation abnormalities in patients with head injury is high and this related to severity of trauma. This situation has been concerned with stimulation of cerebral of cerebral thromboplastin, cerebrovascular endothelial damage and neurohumoral changes. In this study, 78 patients with head injury have been prospectively evaluated with coagulation abnormalities and analyzed for platelet count (PC), prothrombin time (PT), activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT), fibrinogen, fibrin degradation products (FDP) and D-Dimer. A significant elevation in PT, FOP and D-Dimer was observed in patients with intracerebral parachyme damage such as severe head injury, intracerebral hematoma, depressed skull fracture and gunshot injuries and also in mortal ones. Especially FDP and D-Dimer had an important role in estimation of prognosis in patients with head injury. Anahtar Kelimeler : Coagulation disorders, d-dimer, fibrin degradation product, head trauma
