Objective: Meningiomas are thought to originate from arachnoid cap cells, which form the outer lining of the arachnoid granulations and vary from a few milimeters to many centimeters in diameter. They called huge meningiomas when more than 6 centimeters in size. In the present study we aimed to discuss 21 huge meningioma cases according their location, clinil features, treatment modalities, mortality, morbidity and recurrence rates.

Methods: Between 1995-2000, 71 intracranial meningioma cases have been accepted in our clinic. 21 of them were more than 6 centimeters in diameter which called huge meningioma. At surgery we performed total resection in 62%, radical subtotal resection in 19% and subtotal resection in 19%.

Results: According their histopathological examination 81 % of them were typical meningioma, 9.5% of them were atypical meningioma and 9.5% of them were malignant meningiomas. Mortality rate was 9.5% (2 cases).

Conclusion: Meningiomas are known to occur. Many factors relate to recurrence but the most important one is the size of the tumor. Naturally huge meningiomas are associated with a higher incidence of recurrence. Anahtar Kelimeler : Meningioma, size, locations, treatment
