SSK İstanbul Eğitim Hastanesi, Nöroşirürji Servisi, İstanbul Two theories have been developed to explain the relationship between primary tumor and metastasis. These are the Mechanical Theory of Ewing and the Soil-Seed Theory of Paget. To establish the relationship between primary tumor and metastasis, the records of 154 pediatric solid maling tumor cases, ages 0-18 years old, who were admitted and treated at the UKMC. (University of Kentucky Medical Center) between the years of 1982-1994 were retrospectively evaluated. Primary CNS tumors, leukemias and lymphomas were excluded. Among these 154 cases 16 of them had lung metastasis, and 7 cases showed brain metastasis. Since only two cases showed concurrent brain and lung metastases, the Soil-Seed Theory was considered for the explanation of tumor-metastasis relationship.
