Nöroloji Kliniği Cauda equina syndrome as a result of lumbar disc herniation is a rare entity where surgical indication is mandatory. Clasically, the clinical signs and symptoms of cauda equina syndrome are siatica leg pain, advanced motor deficit, hypoestesia or anestesia and sphincter defects. The planning and timing of surgical intervention is important in the prognosis of the patient. In our clinic, 703 patients of lumbar disc herniation were opereted between 1998-2001. Nine of those (%1,3) had cauda equina syndrome. In this paper, these cases are retrospectivelly reviewed and two of them who had lumbago, sphincter dysfunction, perianal and genital anestesia but no motor deficit are evaluated in accordance with report in literature.
