Ameliyat-ı Cerrahiyye and Chapters Related to Neurosurgery

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to introduce the book named Ameliyat-ı Cerrahiye (Surgical Operations) which was written about between 1906 and 1911 and that is in the Turkey Handwriting Catalog currently.

MATERIAL and METHODS: The signs about calligrapher and writer of this book was disscussed. The writer of this book may be Hayrettin Mustafa Paşa rather than Mehmet Tevfik Biren.

RESULTS: The period that the book was written is important for modern neurosurgical history.

CONCLUSION: The other scopes of the study are to emphasize that the neurosurgical practice in Turkey was parallel to the western countries in that period and to present data about the real writer of the book may be Hayrettin Mustafa Paşa rather than Mehmet Tevfik Bey.
