Peripheral nerve cases were operated sporadically at the beginning. Contributions of the first surgeons educated in foreign countries were respectable in the end of the 1800's. However, the number of cases increased during the early 20th century wars.

MATERIAL and METHODS: First peripheral nerve cases were operated by general surgeons. These cases were operated by neurosurgeons since 1930's. Neurosurgeons have been the pioneers of microsurgical interfascicular anastomosis. Since 1980's peripheral nerve cases were also operated on by plastic and orthopedic surgeons, too. Therefore the centers on upper extremity peripheral nerve surgery were developed in the big cities in overtime.

RESULTS: This study revealed that peripheral nerve surgery in Turkey has been performed proper to the world standards.

CONCLUSION: Peripheral nerve operations were performed on successfully by educated surgeons with time. Anahtar Kelimeler : Brachial plexus, History, Peripheral nerve, Surgery
