S.B. Ankara Numune Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi, 2. Beyin Cerrahisi Kliniği, Ankara, Türkiye Ganglioglioma is a rare mixed type tumor of the central nervous system. It usually occurs in early childhood or young adult ages. This tumor is typically located in supratentorial region. First complaint is usually seizures. It is rare in infratentorial localization. Because of its glial structure, the tumor has a malign transformation potential. Generally they grow slowly, their development may take from months to a few years, and cause a neurological dysfunction. The commencement of symptoms in posterior fossa is earlier because the infratentorial area is narrower than the supratentorial area. Usually it appears as a solid lesion in radiologic examination. Pleomorphic xantoastrositomas ependymomas, desmoplastic medulloblastomas and hemangioblastomas must be thought in differential diagnosis of posterior fossa gangliogliomas. In this report we present a 15-year old girl who was admitted with headache, nausea and vomiting, find out to be ganglioglioma in histological examination after the operation with the diagnosis of posterior fossa tumor.
