Fahr Diseases: Case Report

Beyin Cerrahisi Kliniği, Ankara, Türkiye Fahr's is a familial disease which chracterized with presence of wide and progressive calsifications in basal ganglions,cerebellar nucleus and deep cortical anatomical structures.Metabolic disorders especially parathyroid disorders are associated with Fahr disease.The clinical characteristics are very various and usually appear such as disfunction of the affected areas.Common clinical findings of the disease are progressive mental dysfunction, seizures, parkinson disease, mood disorders and also may present without neurological abnormalities.This kind of cases could be mimicking subarachnoid hemorrhage on admisson to emergency clinic.The Brain Computed Tomography is the best useful diagnosis method.In this report we assess Fahr disease which is a rare cause of intracranial calsifications and could present with lots of neurological symptoms.
