Contributions of Turkish Neurosurgeons to Spine Surgery Literature

Ümraniye Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi, Beyin Cerrahisi Kliniği, İstanbul, Türkiye AIM: To determine the number of manuscripts of Turkish origin published in international spine and spinal cord-related journals, to demonstrate the contribution of different disciplines on these publications, and to compare the situation with those of other countries.

MATERIAL and METHODS: In this study, we analyzed manuscripts published between 2005 and 2010 in spine and spinal cord-related journals with a PubMed survey. The analyzed journals include Journal of Neurosurgery: Spine, Spinal Cord, European Spine Journal, Spine, and Journal of Spinal Disorders and Techniques.

RESULTS: In the last 6 years, 295 manuscripts from Turkey have been published with 224 (76.4%) manuscripts were published by neurosurgeons. Turkish authors published their studies primarily in Spine, Journal of Neurosurgery: Spine, and European Spinal Journal. Most manuscripts were published by neurosurgeons.

CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated the effectiveness of Turkish physicians in the field of spine surgery publication. Anahtar Kelimeler : Publication, Spine, Turkey
