The Place of Spine Surgery in Turkish Neurosurgical Society Meetings

Ümraniye Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi, Nöroşirürji Kliniği, İstanbul, Türkiye AIM: The aim of this study was to reveal the contribution of Turkish neurosurgeons to the studies in the field of spine surgery in scientific meetings.

MATERIAL and METHODS: In this study, the oral and poster presentations related to spine surgery that were submitted to the Turkish Neuropsychiatry, Turkish Neurosurgery Association and Turkish Neurosurgery meetings were reviewed.

RESULTS: Spine surgery-related papers made up 25.4% and 5.1% of all oral and poster presentations at Turkish Neuropsychiatry meetings between 1967 and 1986, respectively. 47 spine-related papers were presented in 3 meetings of Turkish Neurosurgery Association between 1973 and 1981. Spine surgery related papers made up 32.9% and 32.25% of all oral and poster presentations at Turkish Neurosurgery meetings between 1987 and 2010, respectively.

CONCLUSION: The rate of spine-related papers submitted to national meetings reflects the powerful involvement of Turkish neurosurgeons in spinal surgery. Anahtar Kelimeler : Spine surgery, Turkish neurosurgery, Analysis
