Bone formation or ossification of pituitary adenomas is an extremely rare radiological and histopathological finding. Only six patients were described in the literature. Pituitary adenoma was detected in a 42 year old female patient presenting with vision loss. In MR and CT images. Discerned pituitary stone in dense bone formation. Biochemical investigations indicated only increase in prolactin levels (158.5 mg/ml) tumor was successfully removed via transcranial pterional approach. Ossify stones surrounded by chronic hemorrhagic and necrotic adenoma tissue were demonstrated in histopathological examinations. The reason of pituitary stone may be a consequence of early hemorrhages or autocsine effect of prolactin or in degeneration adenomas proliferation of connective tissue may develop ossification potential for osteoid metaplasia because of seconder ischemia due to tumor enlargement, radiotherapy or bromocriptine treatment.
