Chiary Malformation and Syringomyelia

It is characterised by the herniation of posterior fossa structures through the foramen magnum into the cervical spinal canal. Syringomyelia is also alone, is not a disease, a chronic neurological disorder in which a longitudinal cystic cavities forms within the spinal cord. Therefore, neurological findings emerged from the compression of the spinal cord. Syringomyelia and Chiari malformations closely associated conditions and There are a lot of theories about the development syringomyelia associated with Chiari malformation. Current treatment options based on these theories. Therefore two pathology often is described together.
